Welcome to 1st Lyonsdown (New Barnet) Scout Group
1st Lyonsdown Scout Group was founded on Jan 1st 1967.
Our group is one of the 28 groups that are part of the Borough of Barnet District, and several districts including ours belong to the County of Greater London North.
We own our headquarters building, which is the centre of our activities in New Barnet. Our centrally heated large hall and attached services block provide a safe and pleasant environment in which our beavers, cubs and scouts can learn and enjoy their scouting experience. We have recently refurbished our meeting rooms, kitchen and toilets, including the addition of a disabled toilet.
We are a very active group, with a lot of camping and outside activities undertaken. 1st Lyonsdown is one of the only groups that specialises in rock & wall climbing and abseiling, although regular camping and other activities are also run. We have our own purpose built climbing wall at the scout centre, which is used by our cubs and scouts.
The Scout Association’s Progressive Training Scheme is a seamless progression of training, activities and awards that cover everything that young people can expect from Scouting between the ages of 6 and 25. This programme is delivered by our team of fully qualified Leaders, all of whom have undertaken extensive training and attend regular refresher courses to prepare them for this voluntary task.
Families may be assured that Criminal Record Bureau checks are mandatory for any adult involved with children in our, or in any other Scout Group. Parents are also invited to undergo CRB checks.
